Trauma

Do you have a tendency to be anxious, uneasy, or lacking in motivation? Are the effects of trauma and PTSD difficult to manage? Are you frequently triggered? In therapy, you can get help shifting away from a life revolving around managing symptoms to being in a place where you can be more at peace with yourself and live more fully. You can reduce the amount of energy that you expend just to take care of yourself. Instead, you can use that time to focus on achieving your goals.

Go beyond just alleviating symptoms

Alleviating symptoms is important but is often just the first step in therapy. Working together, you can expect help getting tools that will help to manage your feelings and work towards building trust in others and yourself. Therapy can help you feel safe enough to build stronger relationships and pursue your own life goals.

Trauma-informed therapy is more than just getting tools

Trauma that you experienced in childhood, adolescence, or as an adult can have long-lasting effects including feelings of shame, remorse, wrath, helplessness, depression, sleep disorders, and substance abuse. The effects of trauma are profound, but trauma-informed treatment is often successful.

In therapy, we may draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), hypnotherapy, and other approaches. You can expect therapy tailored to your needs and your goals.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for PTSD

EMDR is designated as an effective treatment for PTSD by the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other leading governmental and non-governmental organizations.

After a traumatic experience, you can be triggered by images, sounds, smells, and sensations that your mind associates with the traumatic event. EMDR works by helping your brain redefine its relationship with these triggers, effectively reducing the frequency and intensity of your re-experiencing trauma and distress.

Hypnotherapy for PTSD

Hypnotherapy can help you change the context of your traumatic experiences. In therapy, you can acknowledge helplessness during the event while also connecting to remoralizing memories such as self-defense efforts, shared affection with friends who may have been injured or killed, or your ability to control the environment at other times. Hypnosis can help you deal with painful memories and lessen spontaneous unbidden intrusive recalls.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in trauma-informed therapy

CBT is an evidence-based short-term treatment strategy that improves a range of trauma-related outcomes. CBT is often highly effective in relieving the effects of trauma, including depression, anxiety, anger, and relationship difficulties
